How can I become a customer?
Click on the green 'request Access Card' button, leave your information and we will send you your personal Access Card within a few days. Reserving a car before you get your Access card is possible.
Do I have to be a student to become a member?
No, you don't have to be a student. Everybody is welcome!
Do I get a car every time I want to?
The earlier you book, the more likely the car is available for your preferred time!
How long do you have to have your drivers license to become a member?
Some people still can't drive properly after 20 years. And some drive perfectly within 3 months after passing their driver's exam. Always act responsible for yourself and your passengers.
How long in advance do I have to make my reservation?
2 weeks, 2 months, 2 years or just last minute! Your call…
How long can I reserve a car?
As opposed to car rental, carsharing vehicles can and should be rent on an hourly basis and not for entire days. During the night we apply a very attractive night offer so you can take the car home. We also have a very cheap weekend offer to make a city trip with your friends for example.
Are there reserved parking lots for StudentCars?
Yes, StudentCars have their own spots. Check the 'locations' page for more details on where you find these spots.
Is it always necessary to indicate an end time?
Yes, absolutely! As you also want to know for your own plannings when a car will be returned.
Is smoking allowed in StudentCars?
No smoking unless you're on fire. Just like all the bars today, no smoking inside! You may be suspended and fined €25,-! If you think the previous driver was smoking, please let us know. Nobody wants a driving ashtray.
What happens when I'm too late?
If you think you won't be back ontime e.g. due to traffic jams or appointments running late, give us a call so we can try to extend your booking time. If you do not report lateness to us in time, you will be fined €25,-
How can I open and lock the car?
You can unlock the car with your peronal Access Card. Never use the key for locking the car! Dont be afraid to use the card during your reservation, you wont log out. Logging out will only occur when you press the black button. If you forget something inside the car, no problem, your Access Card will work another 3 minutes.
Can somebody else drive in my timeslot?
No, it is strictly forbidden to let other people drive. There is no insurance coverage for other people than those that subscribed to StudentCar.
How do I get a Access Card to?
It's easy, just join StudentCar by clicking the green 'Access Card' button top right and leave your information. Than your Access Card will be send to you within 2-3 business days. Alternatively you can pick it up yourself at the StudyStores (bookstores) at the Erasmus University Rotterdam or the Uithof Campus in Utrecht or at the VBU at Uilenstede in Amstelveen.
Where is the car key?
The key is in the car at all times! The key only works if you made a reservation and properly opened the car with your Access Card.
What if I don't use a reserved car?
Reservations during the week can be cancelled 48 hours in advance by sending an email to info@studentcar.nl Cancellations less than 48 hours or for reservations during the weekend, the full amount of reserved hours will be billed. No km charges of course. We would still like to know if you're cancelling.
Do I have to pay for the fuel myself?
You will only be charged for the kilometers you drive. Fuel is on our expense. You will find a tank card in every car. It is valid at every gas station in the Netherlands. These costs are on us, but please keep the receipt in the tank card folder. You ought to fuel up when the tank is getting empty. Don't leave the person next to you with an almost empty fuel tank. Yo wouldnt like that either.
With what kind of fuel should I fill up the car?
Our Toyota Aygo's are powered by a gasoline engine. Please fill it up with BENZINE. Take the green nozzle labeled EURO 95. Our Seat Ibiza's need DIESEL. Please remember to put the receipt and the fuel card back in the folder!
May I go abroad with a StudentCar?
No frontiers within the European Union, but please inform us if you have plans travel further than 500km one way.
May I undertake one-way rides with StudentCar?
No, you will have to return the car at the pick-up parking spot.
Am I obliged to pay a deposit?
No, we do not charge a deposit. Should you damage the car, than it will cost you a fixed own risk price. Check the terms and conditions for more information on liability.
How do I leave the parking lots with a StudentCar?
Each StudentCar is equipped with a entrance card. You can open the gate by holding the card in front of the reader.
How do I pay my rides?
Comfortably, by direct debit. At the end of the month you can access online an invoice listing the details of your rides.
How old are the cars?
They aren't old, they're latest model Toyota Aygo's.
Where does the economic advantage of Car Sharing end?
For up to 10.000 kilometers per year, a private car will always be more expensive than using a carsharing vehicle.
How do I unsubscribe?
WHY!? We're so cheap! But ok, we won't make it harder than it should be: Just send an email to info@studentcar.nl with your name and member ID and we will treminate your contract by the end of next month. Please send the Access Card to the address on the contact page. you can no longer use the StudentCars when ever you like. Are you sure you want to unsubscribe?
